Bovey Community Fridge

Bovey Tracey Community Fridge

Part of the Climate Action: Bovey and Heathfield working group, the Bovey Community Fridge is a space where surplus food is shared for free in an effort to reduce food waste. The fridge is accessible to everyone living and working in Bovey Tracey.

The fridge will be stocked by local businesses sharing food that wouldn’t otherwise be sold, fresh produce from local gardeners and food gifted from households.

WHY A COMMUNITY FRIDGE?

  • The average household throws away £470 worth of food a year.
  • Most food waste in the UK (4.1 million tonnes) is avoidable and could have been eaten if it had been better managed.
  • Every tonne of food waste ending in landfill produces approximately 4.2 tonnes of greenhouse gases.
