A Decarbonisation Plan for Heathfield Industrial Estate has been announced, with the help of nearly £100,000 awarded to Devon County and Teignbridge District Councils, to work in partnership to create a decarbonisation plan for the industrial estate. The Councils will look at the feasibility of introducing renewable energy options such as solar PV installations, green hydrogen and district heating on the estate.

This model could then be replicated on other industrial estates across the county.
The funding of £99,851 follows a successful bid by Devon to South West Net Zero Hub. The aim of a total £1 million grant fund, from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, is to support local authorities in the south-west region to increase the number, scale and quality of net zero projects in the region.
Heathfield is, of course, within the Bovey Tracey Town Council’s area and as such, this announcement is greeted with enthusiasm by Climate Action: Bovey & Heathfield. CABH is endorsed and supported by Bovey Tracey Town Council and its objectives include assisting the Council and residents and businesses within its area towards meeting the challenges of the climate emergency. CABH is ready and able to provide local knowledge and “on the ground” assistance to the councils involved, in the formulation of this exciting plan, which could and should significantly reduce the local level of carbon emissions, whilst reducing energy consumption and costs for local businesses. CABH looks forward to working with the relevant officers to achieve a Decarbonisation Plan that will help to make a real difference both locally and further afield.
